Perry is she is Chicago native who was she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. The character Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of her two appearances on Roseanne. Fearing stress, her parents were not keen to let the actress pursue acting until she reached the age of 18. Perry states that she did not want to be an actor in highschool but decided to start playing as a way to make friends during her time at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. Perry began her career as an actress in New York after graduation, landing minor parts on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry go back to California and find work as an actress in the theater. Perry was a part of Broadway with her mother in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. The show featured her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. In 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's crime thriller The Family. Her father played her character in The ABC show Scandal. The actress was also featured on The CBS show The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. The character was chosen by auditions, even though she had a close connection with it.
